What is Opportunity Knocks?
Opportunity Knocks is a newsletter for anyone that cares about children’s issues. Every week, I share reflections, ideas, questions, and content suggestions focused on championing, building, and accelerating opportunity for kids. I write the newsletter, and include lots of content to pick and choose from (charts, stats, videos, stories). I hope this newsletter sparks critical thinking. Sometimes gets you mad. And always keeps you inspired.
Who am I?
My name is Andrew Buher. I am a dad, husband, teacher, and entrepreneur. I grew up in suburban New Jersey. Early in my career, I helped open The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School. I was Chief of Staff and COO at the NYC Department of Education. I served as a White House Fellow in 2014-2015 at HUD. I founded and manage Opportunity Labs, a national non-profit research, policy and consulting firm focused on children. I also teach policy courses at Princeton’s School of International and Public Affairs. I serve on the boards of TEP and America’s Promise Alliance. My writing has been published in Politico, The Hill, New York Daily News, The 74 and CNN.
